A thrilling new novella from best-selling author Greig Beck - starring the formidable Alex Hunter. When the coalition of Allied Forces established an international zone in Iraq, they meant to bring peace to the region. They were succeeding - until the moment something hulked into the zone and detonated a nuclear bomb. The last images from the area prior to the blast are not of drones or the trail of an ICBM. Instead they show a solitary figure carrying the enormous weapon to the soon-to-be ground zero on its back. Consulting an ancient prophecy, scholars warn that an ancient evil has returned, wielding the power to raise the dead to do its bidding. Major Jack Hammerson, leader of the elite commandos known as the HAWCs, knows that only one soldier is up to the task. But he cannot do it alone. Alex Hunter, the Arcadian, teams up with old ally and Mossad spy, Adira Senesh, to unravel the age old prophecy, tracing it back to the very heart of madness.

That may make them sound off-putting, but the characters are wonderfully eccentric, not least the central priest, Father Brown himself. He solves mysteries by using a kind of psychic ethical sense, rather than carefully adding up clues. These stories are delightful, and read with clarity and enthusiasm. One of the best audio books I've picked up in a long time. 2. 0 out of 5 stars Not My Cup of Tea Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 26, 2015 Verified Purchase Not for me. Very wordy and off the point in most stories. David Timpson, after making a half-hearted attempt at a French accent for Flaumbeau, gave up the effort entirely. Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2012 Verified Purchase Father Brown brings a Christian voice to his stories but in a quiet manner that is not in your face. These stories have such a twist and turn that they keep you dangling until the end. It always appears that the bad guy didn't do it until the end and sometimes he didn't do it. It is my type of mystery -keeps you on your toes, without much blood and gore! This last set of CDs, we purchased for our 95 year old priest who loves reading but has problems with his eyes. He is loving them. I give them 4 stars. Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2019 Verified Purchase This is a good mystery series for all to enjoy. Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2014 Verified Purchase Love the Fr. Brown stories! The reader is great and really makes the story come alive! Definitely recommend this recording to others!

Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2016 This, "The Hammer of God", is a short story in audio format. It s an excellent narration of what is, to this point, my favorite "Father Brown" mystery. The short story is written by G. K. Chesterton. The protagonist is Father Brown who was inspired by a friend of G. To my knowledge, there are approx. 53 Father Brown stories. This is possibly favorite one. I cannot really tell you why without risking spoiling the story. Thank You... Top reviews from other countries 5. 0 out of 5 stars Excellent - but not like the TV series at all Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 1, 2018 Verified Purchase Anyone who thinks of the TV series of the same name is going to be disappointed. That is a rather bland, generic, afternoon murder mystery on TV. These original stories are none of those. Written in the early 1900s, Chesterton's tales are not conventional in any way. They come out of a deep (and romantic) Roman Catholicism, and are moral fables rather who whodunnits.
